Rosie’s Residence – a division of Rosie’s Place – recently and desperately needed aesthetic upgrades to their kitchenettes. So, they approached an experienced team, sure to get the job done.
The team of designers, painters and artisans had collaborated before on Rosie’s Place projects. During January and February of 2008, Pauline Curtiss Designs, Oliver Interiors, and Catchlight Painting volunteered their time and skill to make some innovative and beautiful transformations to the place.
Paula heard about it and wanted in. “It seemed so natural for me to lend a hand in a simple but powerful way. Digging in and making it happen gives me an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment; to be part of something that is so much bigger that I am and to be able to put a smile on one person’s face – even for just a moment – is what it’s all about.”
The design team chose color schemes that would be cheerful and uplifting. Pauline Curtiss custom-designed interesting and playful borders that were hand printed in four of the kitchenettes. The basic design of each kitchen is the same, but by changing small details, each kitchenette reflects a unique version of Pauline’s desing. After the transformation, the residents felt like they had their own private spaces in an otherwise large housing environment.
Paula spent three consecutive weekends cutting stencils, painting, stenciling, and of course cleaning everyone’s work space! Paula smiles as she notes that the women squabble over who has the best kitchen!
