Leaving the company for 10 months and deploying to the Middle East was an extraordinary experience. The memories of that time are etched in my mind. But the thing I’m most proud of is the magnitude of the effort made by everyone at Commodore while I was gone. There was no gap in leadership left by my departure. Not a moment’s hesitation. They executed the business plan better than I could ever have hoped. I was able to provide leadership to our Navy Seabees and serve my country overseas, while at home our company grew 40%. We relocated our corporate offices and we were recognized by Inc magazine as one of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the United States. All this while I was away.
Their amazing performance has become a catalyst for Commodore’s growth, enabling me to focus on initiatives far beyond the usual planning horizon. I’ve had an opportunity that few CEOs have…to reinvent my position…to focus on innovation, to look at the future and to chart our course.
