We’re not the only ones walking the walk when it comes to sustainability. We’re lucky to be partnering with many firms who run big businesses with small carbon footprints. In the coming months, we’ll feature some of those firms and the measures they’re taking to help build a better planet.

Mark Richey Woodworking and Design

Mark Richey Woodworking and DesignMark Richey Woodworking and Design has always been an environmentally responsible company. But when they moved to their new location in Newburyport, MA three years ago, they fast-forwarded to the top of the list of green manufacturers in the architectural millwork industry.

We partnered with Mark Richey on our recently completed Boston Consulting Group project. We were curious to see their award-winning facility for ourselves and travelled to Newburyport for an extensive tour given to us by President Mark Richey, his wife Teresa and COO Greg Porfido.

We learned how their biomass furnace heats the entire facility with wood scraps from the production area.

An Ecogate system eliminates dust in the air. There were no fumes and none of the noise you would expect from a millwork plant. There was tons of natural light, energy efficient lighting and movable work spaces. It was an amazing tour of an amazing plant!

Now the company is planning to install a wind turbine to supply electricity to the facility this year.

When Mark Richey isn’t busy working with his team in Newburyport, he’s busy climbing mountains…like the Matterhorn…the Eiger and Everest!

You can learn more about Mark Richey Woodworking and Design by reading the articles below or by clicking on www.markrichey.com. Or better yet, visit them in Newburyport. They give the best tour in town!

"I want to thank the three of you for what was one of my most enjoyable projects in ten years at HMI.  From the beginning you all were so friendly, responsive, helpful, insightful, to all of my questions, uncertainties, panics, and everything else.  The place looks great and the feedback I've heard has been nothing short of fantastic. I was amazed that at almost any time of day or evening I could get one of you on the phone or a timely email response."
