When Belmont Country Club decided to enhance their clubhouse facilities, the spring holiday season was fast approaching. The June 1st grand opening of the recently upgraded golf course required that work on the facilities take place concurrent with long-standing traditional club functions like Mother’s Day brunch. It took a courteous and collaborative team to adapt and respond to the function schedule without disrupting member activities. Commodore Builders was there for this fast-track, event-filled season of construction.

Work was primarily performed on the bones of the building, including structural repairs and upgrade finishes.  The main entry-way and kitchen required technical enhancements and finish replacements to blend with existing materials. Commodore worked side-by-side with engineers to design and reduce the cost of structural repairs, while delivering on the design intent. Work hours were limited by members activities. Temporary partitions were installed to allow members access to the only public entrance. Enhancements in the kitchen were performed with hospital-style dust barriers in place to keep every morsel of construction away from food preparation.

Unanticipated structural issues, common in older buildings, were found and major renovations to the front entrance lobby and elevator were required.  Structure elements surrounding the elevator were repaired and replaced with identically matched materials. The elevator shaft was repaired block-by-block without disrupting day-to-day operations.  The Commodore team worked on one-half of the foyer and two-story staircase, demolishing, installing drywall, millwork, marble patching and new carpet, while the other half remained open for member access. Work was carefully planned and conditions kept immaculate because only a temporary partition separated club members from the construction team.

The walls of the main mechanical room were reinforced, complicated by limited access and no staging area. The team removed, dismantled and refurbished an existing crystal chandelier. Stone and marble were identically matched and replaced. Carpets were installed to seamlessly blend with the look of the existing area. Millwork was removed and replaced without a telltale trace of construction.

Repairs to the kitchen were made while it remained fully operational. While the chef was fashioning radish flowers behind the partition on one side of the kitchen, the Commodore team was reinforcing structural beams just three feet away on the other side. Mother’s Day festivities went off without a hitch.

At the conclusion of the project, Chef Steve presented the Commodore team with a grand finish of his own. To celebrate the construction collaboration, the team, with work boots and all, was invited to enjoy a banquet table complete with all the trimmings of a grand feast. As a gesture of gratitude for a minimally disruptive and easy process, Chef Steve and his staff provided the dusty Commodore team with a feast fit for carpenters and kings.
