Commodore Builders converted an Arts and Crafts-style mini-mansion on the Chestnut Hill campus of Boston College, from a residence into administrative offices for College staff. Originally built in 1928, the building was deemed of historical importance by the Historic Commission of Chestnut Hill. The Commodore team paid close attention to preserving the residential and historical character of the building’s exterior by restoring original windows, repairing the slate roof, and re-pointing the brick façade.
To allow for handicapped access within the building, Commodore installed a new elevator by carefully completing structural repairs and reframing wood floor joists to accommodate the elevator shaft. The CMU shaft for the elevator was integrated seamlessly into the existing walls and floors of the house.
This project received a Newton Preservation Award for its historical preservation achievements.
