Longwood Events is an integrated event planning and
management company. Their portfolio of properties includes the landmark
State Room, an elegant function facility at 60 State Street, with soaring
windows and panoramic views of Boston.
With the success of the new State Room function facility,
Longwood Events’ management still faced the need to satisfy the continually
growing demand for high-end event space, specifically tailored to wedding
functions. At the same time, the Boston University Club, searching for a new
home, also identified this space, famous for its panoramic views of the
Boston skyline, as the perfect location for their new home.
Mr. Apteker, owner of Longwood Events, brought Commodore
Builders on board before the start of a new design project, to assist in
preconstruction and construction for renovations to the Northeast section of
the 32rd floor, appropriately named Harborside. Given the fact that the
State Room was now up and running with events planned a year in advance,
there was only a small window of approximately 8 weeks open on the event
schedule to conduct these renovations. The project required Commodore to
completely demolish the current space, including most of the mechanical and
electrical systems, to raise the ceiling approximately one foot.
Coordination of the mechanical systems and taking advantage of underutilized
spaces discovered during demolition required the team to work closely
together. This collaborative effort ultimately resulted in a space
that was booked out over a year in advance only one month after construction
completion.
Unique features in this
space include a Topo ceiling, custom beaded wall coverings, high-end
millwork finishes, custom crown moldings, shade pockets over the windows and
a multi zone Lutron dimming system. The work was conducted on an occupied
floor and was coordinated around previously scheduled functions. |
