Founded in 1855
and headquartered in Salem, Massachusetts, Salem Five Bank is a $2
billion provider of consumer and commercial banking services. Joseph
M. Gibbons, President and CEO of Salem Five, attributes the bank’s
growth to the community's positive response to Salem Five as a good
corporate citizen. “The public has made it possible for us to grow
and expand,” explains Mr. Gibbons, “which motivated us to make a
further commitment to the community by purchasing the property at
One Salem Green.”
In the fall of 2003, Salem Five partnered with Commodore Builders,
making the commitment a reality and beginning what would become
long-term relationship between Salem Five Cents Savings Bank and
Commodore Builders. The 10,000 SF fit-out at One Salem Green in
Salem consists of a new reception area, conference rooms,
kitchenette and offices. Hardwood flooring, wall covering and wood
veneer doors enhance the space, along with the installation of new
lighting and air handling systems.
Following the
renovations at One Salem Green, Salem Five hired Commodore
again, this time to construct a
57-foot long,
2-story enclosed Pedestrian Bridge. The bridge connects the
second and third floors of One Salem Green to the second and third
floors of 210 Essex Street, the bank's corporate headquarters. At
its lowest point, the bridge stands twelve and a half feet from the
ground to the base of the bridge. It is constructed of a steel and
glass curtain wall system, similar to high-rise buildings found in
downtown Boston. Joining the new bridge with two older buildings
posed risks to schedule and budget, along with many complex
logistics. But the project was completed on time and on budget and
has become an icon of Salem Five’s commitment to the City of Salem.
As their expansion
continues, so does the partnership between Salem Five and Commodore
Builders. In June, 2004, Commodore completed renovations to the
existing base building for the Salem Five North Andover Branch.
The project included a new millwork teller line,
check writing table, conference rooms, kitchen and offices. The
project was completed in just 8 weeks
In August, 2005,
Commodore completed work on a new base building for the Salem
Five North Beverly Branch. This work also included a new
millwork teller line, check writing table, conference rooms, a
kitchen and offices. This project required that Commodore coordinate
the integration of an owner-procured drive-in and security materials
for a complete drive-thru service. This project was completed on an
8-week schedule.
Commodore
completed a two–week teller line renovation for Salem Five on
Congress Street in Boston, a project which included new
flooring, millwork and security glass. The renovations took place in
an occupied downtown office building, with all work done at night to
avoid disruption to the tenants.
Located in
historic Hamilton, renovations to the 3,500 square foot Hamilton
branch occurred in two phases. Throughout construction, the bank
remained occupied and fully operational. Each phase was completed
in three weeks and required a weekend change-over. Phase One
consisted of demolition and installation of new millwork, glass
throughout and a new teller line. To ensure the bank was one
hundred percent operational, Commodore installed a temporary teller
line while construction of the permanent teller line was underway.
Phase Two commenced immediately following completion of Phase One.
The temporary teller line was removed and the build-out of the new
offices, kitchen and conference space then took place. New floor
underlayment was installed throughout and special floor
reinforcement was added underneath the new vault.
The Middleton
branch is the fifteenth project in a longstanding partnership
between Salem Five and Commodore. The 4,000 square foot branch is
located in a new residential-style strip mall in Middleton. Every
element of the eight-week project was coordinated with the base
building, simultaneously under construction. The project included a
new teller line, check writing table, conference room, kitchen,
office space, millwork and glass throughout. Commodore collaborated
closely with the contractors installing the drive-in unit and the
security equipment on site. The branch was completed on schedule
and opened in August 2006.
